This
is an interesting token, as showing that the carriers of those days,
when many of the roads were impassable for wagons or wheeled vehicles,
used packhorses for the conveyance of goods entrusted to their care.
The
spelling on Hopping's token was adopted by Risdon, in his "Survey of
Devon", 1630, by Fielding in his novel of "Tom Jones", and by the
Ordnance Map of 1868.
