Supermarket
Council Meeting.
Last Thursday the 20th October 2005 an important meeting took place at the town council, its unfortunate that the local paper today has only a four line entry to say the town approved the planning application by Tesco.
The people of Cullompton have been asking for, even demanding a second supermarket in the town, this has been going on now for more years than some care to remember. Its important that the public know that the town council has been working hard all those years to achieve what is needed.
This has not been easy, there has been issues over what land was available in the local plan, a public inquiry, many meetings to discuss road issues, land purchases, repeated applications or varied proposals for designs etc. (We are under the final decisions of MDDC, County Highways, Environment Agency etc, we are only consultees !)
At the meeting last week it was a “heated” debate based on a new roundabout design instead of traffic lights, this new plan fitted in and was accepted by County Highways, fortunately there were a few members of the public there to bear witness to the fact that the town council was most definitely thinking of the town and voted in favour of this application.
The application has now got to go to the planning committee at Mid Devon District Council hopefully on the 9th November, will there be yet again another let down for the town ? If so I will try and publish the reasons for you to see.
I must say there is no truth that we are trying to get an entry in the Guinness Book of Records for the longest planning application to pass through MDDC for a supermarket to be approved.

Licensing Issues
Licensed Premises - Public Houses etc
There has been considerable concern shown by local people in and around Cullompton about the renewal of license's for public houses etc.
This is not just a concern shown in Cullompton but its a National issue and more and more Members of Parliament are becoming involved, peoples lives are being affected by current licenses already in use, even more concern with the possible extended hours, noise, drunkenness etc.
If you are within Mid Devon District Council and wish to make a complaint about an application / objection under the new legislation, you may download (Click Here) then print and complete this form. It only applies IF you live near the premises in question OR you may ask a Councilor to complete the form on your behalf.
If any doubts , please contact Mrs M. Parish at Tiverton on 01884 244617/8/9
