Signed on: Sun 05 Jun 2005 14:03:13 BSTWith family connections in the West Country, I am keen to track down local railway artefacts to remind me of the area. Of particular interest are the brown ‘hot dog’ shaped signs that were used to display the station names at Cullompton and other local stations, during the 1950’s and 60’s. If any ex railwaymen or anyone else has information as to the whereabouts of these or similar signs or has one in their possession that they would like to part with, please drop me a line at the following address: -
Mr Baker, c/o 11 Slades Green, Bothenhampton, Bridport, Dorset DT6 4DZ or via e-mail to fa497602@skynet.be
Your help is much appreciated, thank you.Admin's Comment: Replied to direct, plus put in touch with local contact :)

Signed on: Mon 04 Apr 2005 13:24:32 BSTHello - How nice the new website is. My family all lived in Cully from 1795. My grandfather Wallace Palmer used to ride to school on a pony circa 1889. Names I am researching are Palmer/Slader/Huxtable/Mock/Holland and possibly Lavercoombe. My Great Uncle Herbert Palmer died in the first world war. I believe he is remembered on the War Memorial. Memories are nice. Best wishes Shirli [ Hi Shirli- we are in the process of putting a genealogy forum online, hope to be up and running in May-call back then and leave a message. - moderator]

Signed on: Sun 20 Mar 2005 13:38:12 GMTI have signed your guestbook quite some time ago. My father's family originate from Cullompton, a John Howe, married to Rliza Leaman in Newton Abbott in 1847, was my great grandfather, born c. 1820. John was also the name of his father but I have never been able to connect the two Johns with any certainty. The 1851 Census shows John & Rliza in Buckfastleigh, and I heve nevwer been able to find my great grandfather in the 1841 Census. I am now 78, living in Tadcaster, Yorkshire so my chances of visisting Cullompton are somewhat remote. Good Luck to the Town, and if anyone has any knowlesge of my Howe family I would be grateful.

Julie Facey
Signed on: Sun 06 Feb 2005 12:32:53 GMTInterested in Cullomption as my husband's GGG Grandfather Enoch FACEY was born there in 1790. I have yet to find his parentage, but know that he became a soldier and ended up in Winchester where he married in 1812 and raised a family, working as a Cordwainer. Hope to pay you a visit some time in the not too distant future to look for Enoch's ancestors.

Signed on: Tue 25 Jan 2005 09:31:45 GMTI have only visited Cullompton once and had the pleasure of visiting McDonalds and then driving up into the town, past a very brightly coloured house - can't remember if it was blue or green. I throughly enjoyed the view of the rolling hills in the distance and the peace and tranquility on Siskin Chase. I would definately like to visit again and partake of the devon-air.
