Cullompton Town Council - Your local Council at the Heart of the Community. Print E-mail
quality_logo.jpgCullompton Town Council represents the people of Cullompton. There are fifteen members of the Council who are elected every four years by the people of Cullompton parish to provide a democratic, representational voice for the community. It is a statutory consultee on all planning matters that affect its area and is concerned with any issue that affects the people living within its parish.
The Council owns and runs the Town Hall, St Andrews car park, where people visiting the town for two hours or less are able to park for free, the outdoor market, the town’s cemetery and the CCTV system in the town’s main streets. It is also trustee for the allotments in Tiverton Road and Upcott Recreation Field. It also owns and maintains the shelter on the corner of Higher Street/Station Road, the bus shelter in Higher Bullring and various other items of street furniture.

The council has partnership agreements with Mid Devon District Council and Devon County Council. It receives money from them to undertake work on their behalf. This includes some street cleansing works and minor repairs. It is felt that by undertaking this work locally we can react to local situations quickly and adapt our schedules to ensure that work is carried out when and where it is most needed.

The council provides grants to local organisations such as pre–school groups and youth groups. It provides Tourist and Community Information in the Town Hall and produces leaflets containing such information. Its office, on the first floor of the Town Hall, is open every weekday morning to provide people with local information and enable them to view planning applications.

The Town Council employs seven people and costs the average tax payer in Cullompton approximately £30 per year. The people of Cullompton are getting good value for their £30 per year. Cullompton Town Council was one of the first ten councils in England to be awarded "Quality" status by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA). As there are approximately 8,000 such councils in England this is an achievement of which we are very proud.
